That retiree at the diner taught me one thing about boom angles
Had a guy in a faded hard hat flag me down at the truck stop outside Houston, and he just said 'son, your boom's too flat for that load radius.' Stuck with me because he was right on a 60-ton pick I had later that week. Anyone else get thrown off by old-timers calling out tiny details like that?

Oh man, "your boom's too flat for that load radius" - I can just hear the gravelly voice saying that. I had a similar moment where an old crane operator yelled at me for what he called "wasting boom" and I swear I spent the next hour trying to figure out if my boom angle was actually wrong or if he just wanted to mess with the new guy. Turns out he was right, and I've been overly paranoid about angles ever since, like checking them twice before every single pick like some kind of nervous rookie. But hey, I'd rather look silly double-checking than have someone call me out again for looking like a clueless amateur in front of the whole yard.
