That 3 AM convo with a retired operator in Tulsa about rigging checks

Was waiting on a loadout last Friday and got to talking with an old timer who ran tower cranes for 35 years. He told me he never trusts a tagline once it's been through a few jobs, and he showed me a frayed spot on his own line that I would have missed completely. Said he rechecks every single lift like it's his first day because one bad sling took down a whole building back in '88. He pulled out a little notebook with every inspection he'd done for the last 20 years, dates and all. Made me wonder how many of us are just going through the motions on our daily checks. Has anyone else ever had a veteran drop a habit on you that made you go back and redo your whole routine?
