Switched my hand signals 6 months ago. Big difference.
I always used the old OSHA standard signals. Worked fine for years. Then I got a new signalman who learned the newer ASME B30.5 hand signals. First job with him I almost dropped a load. Misread his 'boom up' for 'hoist up'. We sat down and talked. Now I use the ASME signals exclusively. Way more precise. No room for confusion. You guys run into this problem? Old versus new signals?

What about the crane operators who are colorblind and can't see those hand signal charts?

Those colorblind hand signal charts are honestly a huge oversight in the industry, doesn't OSHA require employers to test for that specific deficiency before someone gets hired for crane work? I mean, wouldn't a simple vision screening that catches that upfront save everyone a lot of hassle and potential accidents down the line?
