Rigging a load with a weird center of gravity took me 6 hours
I had a steel beam in Columbus that kept tilting even after I set the slings where the drawings said. Had to run back to the shop for a spreader bar and chain hoist to balance it. Anyone else deal with prints that don't match reality?

You mentioned the prints didn't match reality, and that's a big part of the problem right there. I don't always trust the drawings when it comes to tricky loads like that. A lot of times the prints are made from an ideal model, not the actual beam with all its welds and dents. I've learned to add a safety factor and maybe an extra sling point when something feels off. That six hours sounds rough, but at least you caught it before it swung into something.
