Rant: The safety meeting that made me walk out
Some safety guy from corporate came to our site in Tulsa last Tuesday and spent 20 minutes lecturing us about tying off on a flat slab. I asked him when he last ran a crane and he said 'thats not my job.' Took my break early after that. Anyone else get useless safety talks from people who have never touched a boom?

Thats not my job" is exactly the problem, right? I mean, safety talks are way more effective when the person giving them has actually done the work before (like obviously they'd know what's realistic). What gets me is that the real safety issue here isn't about tying off on a slab, it's about corporate sending out people who don't understand the actual hazards we face every day. A guy who's never touched a boom doesn't know that the real danger is complacency from boring talks that waste our time, not the specific rule they're pushing. Those generic presentations just make everyone tune out, which is actually more dangerous than skipping the meeting altogether.
