Pro tip: swapping to a shorter jib made my life easier on tight jobs
I was setting up for a high rise in downtown Austin last month and kept bumping into the building next door with my 150 foot jib. My spotter suggested dropping down to a 120 footer for the lift and I thought it would mess up our radius. Turned out we had way more room to swing and the pick was actually smoother. Has anyone else tried using a shorter jib on purpose just to get better clearance?

Did the shorter jib change your boom angle at all for that tight spot?

Ha, you'd think a shorter jib would help with angles, but my boom just looked at me and laughed. Shortened the jib by about a foot and the boom angle barely budged, still swung like a grumpy giraffe in that tight alley. Ended up having to shimmy the mast step a bit to get any real change. Guess my boat's just allergic to easy fixes, right?
