Picked the wrong rigging yesterday and learned my lesson quick

Had to choose between wire rope slings and chain slings for a steel beam lift in the rain. I went with wire rope because it was lighter to handle, but they slipped on the wet surface. Got it down safe but it took 3 tries. Anyone else have a go-to for wet conditions?

You mentioned the wire rope slipping on wet steel, and that's exactly the problem I've run into. For wet conditions, I always grab the chain slings even though they're heavier (your arms will feel it, no joke). The chain links bite into the steel way better when things are slick, especially if there's any rust or paint chipping off the beam. Also, I keep a couple of rubber-coated grab hooks in my truck for rainy days, they add a little extra grip without damaging the sling.

That rubber coated grab hook trick is smart, I've never thought of that. Adds a little insurance without messing with the sling's load rating or anything like that. Might have to grab a set myself for those rainy morning jobs where everything feels greasy.
