My kid asked me why my crane doesn't have a seatbelt, and I had to think for a minute.

I was explaining my job to my 8-year-old last week, and he just looked at me and said, 'But dad, if it's so high up, why don't you wear a seatbelt like in the car?' and honestly, that simple question about fall protection from a child hit me harder than any safety briefing ever has.

My buddy's kid asked him the same thing once, and he said it totally changed how he clips in every morning now (like, without even thinking about it).

A guy I used to work with had a similar talk with his daughter. He told her the harness was his seatbelt, and from then on she'd ask every morning if he "put his seatbelt on." It really stuck with him, kind of like what @noah_black was saying about a rule becoming a real idea. He said it made checking his gear feel important, not just a box to tick.

Consider how you answered him, because that's the moment where a safety rule either becomes a real idea or just another thing to ignore. Did you find yourself explaining the harness and lanyard, or did you admit that sometimes the rules feel inconvenient until someone points out the danger?
