Hit 10,000 hours on the lattice boom and it hit me different
I hit 10,000 hours on my rig last Tuesday and it caught me off guard. We were wrapping a steel erection gig near the Port of Tacoma and I glanced at the hour meter on the Link-Belt, 10,014. That number sat with me all the way home. I started as an oiler back in 2013, never planned to make a career of it. But 10k hours means Ive lifted everything from precast panels to a 12 ton chiller, and I remember the sketchy ones more than the easy days. There was this one hospital job in 2019 where I had to swing a column through a gap with maybe 3 feet of clearance on each side. My foreman told me I was too green for that pick, but I pulled it off without a scratch. Now I see younger guys hitting 2k or 3k hours thinking they know it all, and I just laugh. Anyone else ever hit a milestone number that made you realize how much youve actually seen on this job?
