Heat treating is way simpler than I thought

I always thought you needed a fancy kiln to do it right until I watched a guy in Ohio do a perfect hardness test with just a torch and a bucket of water. Anyone else skip the expensive gear and still get good results?

You totally don't need a fancy kiln to get good results" really hit home for me. I was the same way until I saw a guy at a local shop do a blade in his backyard with just a propane torch and a can of used motor oil. It's honestly freeing to realize you can get decent heat treat results without dropping hundreds on gear.

Dude nobody talks about how even temp control matters way more than the heat source itself.
