Dropped $300 on a used camera system for my 40 ton and it paid for itself in one pick
I grabbed a wireless hook camera off a retired operator in Houston for $300 because I was tired of blind picks behind a wall. Two jobs later I spotted a sling riding on a sharp edge that I never would have seen from the cab, and that alone saved me a dropped load and a lot worse. Anyone running a camera on their block, and did you go wired or wireless?

That sharp edge catch is the whole ballgame right there. I ran wired for two years on my 40 ton before switching, and the cable was the weak point, not the camera. Had one get pinched between the block and the headache ball on a tight pick and it killed the feed mid lift, which is the worst time to lose your eyes. Wireless has its own headaches though, since a busy site with a lot of other radios can cause the signal to cut in and out. What worked for me was mounting the transmitter high on the boom tip instead of down at the block, keeps it clear of the metal and the range holds up. For $300 you got a deal, most of the guys I know paid double that.
