Am I the only one who has been rigging their picks all wrong for years?

I was out on a job last Thursday setting HVAC units on a roof in Austin. We had a 2,500 pound unit on the hook and I watched my hand guy signal me to swing left. I did the usual thing I always do, keeping the load close to the cab. But then the foreman walked over and asked why I was working the boom so much instead of just using the swing. He showed me that I was overcomplicating my picks by trying to keep everything tight to the machine when I had plenty of room. Turns out I was making tiny corrections with the boom the whole time and wearing out my controls for no reason. I had been doing this for almost 5 years and nobody ever bothered to tell me I was being inefficient. Has anyone else had a moment where a simple tip completely changed how you run your crane?

Gotta say though, the boom controls are way smoother for tiny adjustments than the swing ever is.

Exactly. The swing always feels twitchy compared to that.
