I thought ligatures in code fonts were a gimmick until I tried coding with them for a week
A coworker kept going on about how ligatures in fonts like Fira Code made his code easier to read, and I thought it was just a visual trick to sell fonts. I gave it a shot for 7 days on a side project, and by day 3 I stopped noticing the symbols and just read the code faster. The weird part is when I switched back to a plain monospace font, the arrow functions looked broken to me. I ended up adding ligatures to my own hand-coded icon set, but only for arrows and the not-equal sign. Has anyone else found ligatures helpful, or do they just mess with your brain after a while?
