A designer at my co-working spot in Boise told me my hand-coded icons looked 'off-grid', so I rebuilt all 42 of them
I had been eyeballing the paths in my icon set for months and honestly thought they looked fine at small sizes. She pulled up my grid overlay on her screen and showed me that 31 of the 42 icons were sitting half a pixel off center, which is why they felt jittery next to text. I went back and snapped every point to a 24px grid with 2px strokes, and the whole set finally looks clean at 16px. Took me a full weekend but it was worth it. Curious if anyone else has a rule for when to snap versus when to let curves breathe off-grid?
