Walked a job site in Tulsa and watched a guy sweep up, then realized nobody budgets for cleanup
I was on a 12,000 sq ft retail build in Tulsa last Thursday and watched a laborer spend almost two hours sweeping drywall dust before the flooring crew showed up. Nobody put that in the schedule. It just happened because the super knew somebody had to do it or the flooring guy would walk. I started adding a cleanup line to every phase after that. Does anyone else build sweep time into their schedule or do you just eat the cost?
Two hours of sweeping on a 12,000 square foot build and the schedule acts like it never happened, that dust just magically disappears into the Tulsa wind. I love how the flooring guy becomes the unpaid inspector who walks if the slab is not spotless, so really the sweep happened at gunpoint. We started calling it "ghost work" on our jobs, shows up every phase, never on the budget sheet, eats a laborer's whole morning. Add it to the schedule or keep pretending the dust fairies handle it, your call.
