TIL the cost of rework is way higher than I ever guessed

I read a 2024 study in Construction Dive that said rework eats up roughly 2-5% of total project budgets, and after seeing a $14,000 drywall screw-up on a 40-unit apartment build last month, I finally get why my old PM always triple-checked the shop drawings, so has anyone here actually tracked their rework costs on a single job and been shocked by the final number?
