The day I hit 30,000 board feet and stopped guessing on framing takes
I used to just eyeball lumber quantities for bids. Then last month on a 14-unit townhome build in Boise, I actually tracked every stick from delivery to cut. The total came out to 30,240 board feet, which was about 8% over my rough estimate. That gap would've eaten my whole margin if I'd been stuck on the old number. I always thought experience was enough, but seeing the real data made me switch to a takeoff spreadsheet for everything now. Anyone else had a milestone like that where tracking changed their whole process?
