That near miss with a crane swing in a tight downtown lot shook me
Last Tuesday I was running a small re-roof job on a 4 story building in Nashville. The crane was lifting bundles to the roof and the spotter called out that a car pulled into the drop zone, right under the load. I yelled for the operator to hold, and we had maybe 30 seconds before the swing would have cleared the curb. The driver didn't see the warning cones because a delivery truck had blocked them from view. We stopped everything, re-routed the car, and added a second spotter at the street corner. That mistake cost us 45 minutes of downtime but saved a bad accident. Has anyone else had a near miss like that on a tight urban job, and how do you handle blind spots from parked vehicles? I'm thinking about adding a remote camera for the operator to see the ground now.
