Paid $800 for a fancy laser level that died after two weeks on a Pittsburgh job site

Should I spend the extra cash on a ruggedized version next time or just go back to a good old string line? Has anyone else had a high-end tool crap out way faster than the cheap stuff?

Yeah I had the same thing happen with a brand new rotary laser on a high rise. I switched to a mid-range model with a basic warranty and it's been running fine for over a year now.

So you spent $800 on something that lasted two weeks? Your tools got a fancier price tag than my first car and died faster too. What kind of "high end" laser level taps out quicker than a gas station hot dog? I bet the cheap string line you got in the junk drawer is still twisted up and ready to go right now. At this point I'd rather trust a wet noodle than another one of those fancy toys. Just my two cents but maybe stick with the string and spend that extra cash on a good lunch instead.
