Overheard a PM say he never uses subcontractor bids from more than 6 months ago

I was sitting at a job trailer in Charlotte last week grabbing some paperwork and this older project manager was on the phone basically telling a GC that any bid older than 6 months is useless because material prices shift too fast. He said he's seen guys lose their shirts locking in a concrete bid from January when they poured in August. It made me think about how I handle quotes for my own shop work and how easy it is to just sit on a number. Has anyone else had a project go sideways because you used an old bid?

Learn from that PM and always put a 30 day expiration on your quotes, saves a lot of headaches.

I read that some contractors learned the hard way after a year old quote came back to bite them.
