My super told me to stop using the freight elevator for material drops

Working on a 12 story apartment building in Brooklyn last summer. The GC's super caught me using the freight elevator to bring up 30 bundles of 2x4s. He said "you're gonna blow out that motor before we even get to drywall." Made me hand carry everything up 8 flights of stairs for the rest of the week. Has anyone else had a super that was super strict about elevator weight limits?

Oh man, that super from the 12 story job in Brooklyn must have been related to mine. I swear some of these guys act like the freight elevator is made of spun sugar and prayers. Thirty bundles of 2x4s is NOTHING, that thing has hauled way worse loads than that. But nope, they'd rather watch you die on the stairs than risk a single groan from the motor. I bet he was just mad you weren't wearing the right color hard hat or something ridiculous. Hope your legs forgave you eventually.

Wait, @nora735, is it bad that I actually prefer the stairs sometimes because at least I can blame my own legs for hurting instead of having a conversation with the super? I mean, last time I took the freight elevator down the guy didn't even let me get past the first floor before he started complaining about the weight of my tool bag. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather haul thirty bundles of 2x4s than deal with that awkward silence while the elevator creaks like its about to give up.
