My foreman told me to stop using the level and just 'feel it' on a slab pour in Austin last month

I was running a crew on a commercial slab pour near downtown Austin, about 12 yards of concrete. We had lasers and levels set up, everything looking good. My foreman Joe, been doing this 30 years, walks over and says 'put the level down, you're overthinking it.' Then he just eyeballed the whole thing and told the pump operator to adjust on the fly. I was freaking out but the slab came out dead flat. How do you guys handle old school guys who refuse to use modern tools? Does experience really beat a digital level every time?

Funny enough we had a similar thing with a fire truck alignment once. Just went with it.

Usually the simplest fix is the one you stick with...
