Had a GC call me out for using the wrong primer on PVC joints in Memphis last month
He showed me the manufacturer's spec sheet and a photo of a joint that failed after 6 months because of it, and now I double check every primer for the actual pipe brand before I glue anything.

That GC probably saved you from a MASSIVE headache down the road. I had a similar thing happen with CPVC glue a few years back where I mixed brands on a repipe and the whole thing turned into a total nightmare. The joints looked fine for like two months then started weeping water at every connection point. Had to cut out about fifteen feet of pipe and start over because the primer and glue just didn't bond right. Now I keep a Sharpie on my tool belt and literally write the pipe brand right on the primer can so I don't grab the wrong one by accident.

Hold on, I gotta push back here @the_taylor. Honestly I think mixing brands on CPVC is one of those things that gets blown way out of proportion. I've used different brands of primer and glue together on probably a dozen jobs and never had a single leak or failure. The chemical bond is basically the same across all of them as long as you're using a proper solvent cement. Sounds like maybe the real issue was a dirty joint or not enough primer, not the brand mismatch.
