Found out last week that over 60% of construction delays on big jobs come from bad communication, not bad weather or materials.
I was reading through a project post-mortem report from a 2023 commercial build in Austin and that stat jumped out at me. Has anyone else seen similar numbers on their sites?

Wait, isn't that stat from a study by the Construction Industry Institute from like 2015? I'm pretty sure I've seen that number floating around for years, not just from some random 2023 Austin project.

Think about who actually benefits from recycling that old stat over and over. It's probably construction companies trying to justify their sky high bids. If they can convince clients that delays are normal and cost overruns are just part of doing business, they never have to change how they work. So this number gets passed around like it's gospel, but nobody asks if it even applies to smaller projects or different types of builds. The 2023 Austin project could have totally different factors like labor shortages or material costs that aren't captured in that old study. By the time someone bothers to check the source, the damage is done and the project is already over budget.
