A superintendent told me to stop walking the job with my head down looking at plans last month

He said 'you're missing the walls bowing three feet away' and now I do a quick 10-second scan before I even look at the prints, has anyone else had to unlearn a bad habit like that?

My dad had the opposite problem, he was a carpenter who always looked at the big picture first. One time he spent twenty minutes admiring the trim work in a house and completely missed that the entire back porch was sinking into the ground. The homeowner had to tap him on the shoulder and point at the crack in the foundation. Now he does a quick glance at the ground before he even looks up.

Tell him to check the ground line first... learned that one the hard way.
