Why does nobody talk about how the JFK files still missing sections?
I dove into the JFK assassination archives last month after my tenant left a stack of old books in a unit. Found out that over 5,000 documents are still withheld or heavily redacted from the 1992 JFK Act deadline. It got me wondering if there's something specific in those missing pages that the government still doesn't want us to see. Has anyone else looked into which agencies are holding out the most on this?

Caught a podcast a few weeks back that dug into those withheld files. The host talked to some former CIA analyst who said a ton of the redacted stuff is just about their old spy network in Mexico City, which makes sense if you read the Warren Commission stuff. But then he also dropped that some files mention a guy who claimed Oswald met with a Soviet agent down there, and that's probably why they're still locked up. The FBI's holding way more than the CIA though, at least from what I've seen in the released counts. Honestly it feels like every release just gives us enough breadcrumbs to keep the mystery alive without ever actually opening the whole damn loaf.

Wait, are you sure about the 1992 JFK Act deadline? I thought that was the 1991 Assassination Records Review Board that got extended a few times. Actually, the real deadline was supposed to be 2017 under the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992, but every president since then has kicked the can down the road. The CIA and FBI are the main ones holding out, mostly on names of informants and still-classified surveillance methods. What gets me is that some of those redacted pages might just be about how they tracked Oswald, not some grand conspiracy.
