TIL most people don't know the difference between 'conspiracy theory' and 'conspiracy fact'

Was at a bar in Austin last Friday. Guy next to me started ranting about lizard people. I told him I actually have a friend who worked at a news station. She confirmed they do coordinate stories with corporate sponsors. That's documented, not secret. He didn't care. Just kept talking about shapeshifters. How do you get people to see that real conspiracies are usually boring paperwork stuff?

How come people would rather believe in wild shapeshifter shit than boring money trails? That's the thing about real conspiracies, they're usually just people in suits making quiet deals. The paperwork stuff is where the actual corruption lives, but it doesn't make for a good story.
