That mudslide in Malibu last January changed how I read weather alerts forever

I was parked on PCH near Zuma Beach around 6pm when the rain started hammering. The evacuation warning came in as a text but I ignored it thinking it was just flash flood generic stuff. 20 minutes later I watched a whole hillside come down and take out two cars ahead of me. Now I pay full attention to any alert that mentions debris flows or burn scar areas. Anyone else start taking those emergency texts more seriously after a close call?

ignored it thinking it was just flash flood generic stuff" - yeah, I still ignore those. Not worth the panic.

Totally get that. The alerts just blend into the noise after a while. Seems like they go off for a light drizzle too, which makes it hard to take the serious ones seriously. Remember last year when we got that surprise downpour and everyone's basements flooded because nobody paid attention to the warnings? That's the tricky part.
