My truck's GPS died at midnight in rural Montana, then the paper map I kept under the seat saved me

Was hauling a load of reclaimed barn wood back from Missoula last Friday when the dash screen just went black. No warning, no flicker, nothing. I was maybe 60 miles from the drop off and my phone had 12% battery left. I remember thinking, no way am I stopping now. Pulled over at a gas station in some town called Drummond, grabbed the old state road atlas I've had since 2019. It took me 45 extra minutes on gravel roads but I made it. My buddy says I'm crazy for keeping paper maps, says GPS is fine until it isn't. Has anyone else had to fall back on old school navigation when the tech gave out? What did you use?
