I just read the actual 9/11 Commission Report and one detail really stood out
I always heard the 'let's roll' story, but the report says Flight 93's cockpit voice recorder only picked up sounds of a fight, not those exact words. I found this on page 14 of the report's first chapter. It makes you wonder how certain parts of a story get cemented in public memory. Has anyone else found small facts in official reports that change the common story?

That detail about the cockpit recorder is a classic example of how oral history can reshape facts.

Totally get that. Had a project once where the "official" story got repeated so much it became fact, even though the early notes said something different. What worked was going back to the raw notes and interview tapes, the stuff before the first summary was written. The messy version is almost always closer to what actually happened, even if it's harder to follow.

Ever notice how the simpler version of a story always wins? Honestly, the truth gets smoothed out so it's easier to tell. It just sticks better that way.
