Hot take: the mail sorting machines at my local hub got slower right after they "updated" them last fall
I've been working out of the same distribution center in Dayton for about 8 years now, so I know the rhythm of those old sorting machines pretty well. Right around October last year, they rolled out some kind of software patch to "improve efficiency," and suddenly the belts started jamming twice as often and the read rate on barcodes dropped by like 15% over the next month. It feels like they traded reliability for some fancy feature nobody asked for. Has anyone else in logistics or mail noticed weird slowdowns after a forced update like this?

15% read rate drop? That's insane for a 'bug fix' update.

Could a 15% drop just be people finally noticing a bug that was already hurting their experience?
