Gas station sushi in Reno beat airport sushi in Sacramento last week
I spent 6 months eating sushi from a Shell station in Reno because my buddy swore by it, and honestly it was decent. Then I grabbed a roll at the Sacramento airport last week because I had a layover, and it was way worse, soggy rice and the fish tasted off. Same price, like $9, but the gas station had a guy who restocked twice a day and you could see the cooler temp display. The airport spot just had a fridge with no date labels on anything. I started checking how long places hold their rice and whether they label prep times, and that changed how I pick anything now. Fast food places hide this stuff too, but at least they show a timer. Has anyone else compared two chain spots and found the sketchy looking one was better run? I want to know if I just got lucky with that Shell guy or if this is a real pattern.

Did you check if that Shell guy was actually measuring the rice temp or just eyeballing it? Seems like the difference might be one dude caring vs a chain just clocking in.
