Bought a $300 water filter setup after a guy in El Paso showed me his tap, and I was wrong about it being a scam
I used to think home water filters were just a way to sell you fancy pitchers and replacement cartridges forever. Then my brother in El Paso sent me a photo of what came out of his tap after a rainstorm, and it looked like weak tea. I laughed and told him to just drink bottled water. He said he was paying around $40 a month on bottled water for his family of four. That number stuck with me. So I got a $300 under sink setup with a basic carbon block and a separate line for drinking water. Six months in, the filter cartridge looked like a used coffee filter when I swapped it. I do not have a lab or anything to prove it is cleaner, but the water tastes better and I stopped buying plastic jugs every week. Has anyone here actually tested their tap water with a kit, and did the results make you change your mind or just stress you out more?
The "weak tea" color is usually just rust or dirt stirred up in the pipes, not necessarily something a carbon filter fixes. Most cheap test kits only check a few things anyway, so don't stress too much about it.
