Appreciation post: Found out my weather app was lying about rain chances for 3 months
I used to check my phone every morning before bike commuting in Portland. Last Tuesday I got soaked on my way to work when the app said 10% chance. My neighbor works at the local news station and told me those apps pull data from a model that's 6 hours old. Now I check the NOAA website instead, which updates hourly. It only takes 30 seconds extra but my dry clothes are proof it works. Has anyone else caught their weather app being way off like that?

Respectfully, different apps work differently. The default phone apps are usually garbage but premium ones like WeatherBug update every 15 minutes. Might be worth checking the app settings or just switching to a better one before blaming the whole system.

Yeah the whole app thing is just part of a bigger problem honestly. People expect everything to be instant now, but every single system has some kind of delay built in. Your weather app, your bank, your food delivery, they all have different refresh times and nobody checks the settings. You just open it, see old info, and blame the service. Kind of like how everyone complains about traffic but nobody checks the route before leaving. @lilyt90 makes a good point though, the free stuff is always the slowest. Maybe the real issue is people just want one app to rule them all and get annoyed when that doesn't exist.
