Wrote off that trowel machine guy's advice for 8 months, finally ate crow on a 30x40 shop floor in Boise
I had a guy on a crew out in Boise keep telling me to slow my finish passes down on slab pours and I pretty much nodded and ignored him for about 8 months because I figured my way was working fine. Then we did a 30x40 shop floor and I rushed the final pass like always and got a nice fat crack running 9 feet out from the control joint, right in front of the homeowner. I called him up and he came out and showed me he does his final go-over at about half the speed I was running and lets the mud set up just a touch more before he touches it. Did the next pour his way and the finish came out flat and clean with almost no hand work. Cost me a whole extra hour on the pour but saved me a callback. I'm still not sold on everything he says but that one stuck. What speed do you all run your final pass on a big flat pour?
