Shelled out $150 for a power trowel rental that sat in the truck all day

Booked it for a big garage floor job in Nashville, figured it would save my knees. Got on site and the slab was too small to even get a good run going with it. Anybody else ever rent equipment that ended up being overkill for the actual space?

Big tools look good in the ad but the real test is the actual space. Happens all the time with people buying trucks for city parking or getting a huge smoker for a couple burgers. There's this urge to go big because it seems like the right move on paper. Reality hits you when you're staring at that machine sitting in the bed of the truck. Live and learn, at least you know now.

Exactly 3 years ago I bought a massive generator during that ice storm in Texas. Rated for 22,000 watts, could power the whole neighborhood basically. @river183 you nailed it - I got it home and realized I live in an apartment. Sat in the back of my SUV for six months before I sold it at a loss. This whole thing runs deeper than tools though. Same logic why people buy those industrial size jars of pickles at Costco then throw half away. It's some weird mental trap where bigger feels smarter even when the math doesn't work. We convince ourselves we're future-proofing but really we're just feeding an ego that wants to be prepared for anything.
