Old parking garage in Charlotte had some wild concrete work

I was down in Charlotte last month checking out a job bid and walked through a parking garage built back in '78. The joints were spaced way further apart than I'd ever use, and there were cracks running all over the place but no major failures. Anybody else run into old slabs that somehow held up fine despite going against what we'd do now?

...and honestly I'm gonna push back on that a little. Just because something held up for 40 years doesn't mean it was good work. Those old garages are ticking time bombs in a lot of cases. They survived because cars were lighter back then and nobody was driving giant SUVs or electric vehicles that weigh twice as much. Tbh the fact that it hasn't collapsed yet doesn't make the engineering smart. It's survivor bias.
