I finally learned why my edges kept chipping, and it only cost me $340 in rework
Was finishing a 24x30 garage slab out in Mesa two months ago and the north edge chipped bad when we pulled the forms, maybe 8 feet of it. I had been pouring at a 4 inch slump because the truck showed up late and I panicked, when the mix should have been closer to 5. The old finisher on my crew, Ray, walked over and just said the mix was too stiff for that heat, that it grabbed the form and tore when we stripped it. He had me wet the forms down before the next pour and wait an extra 40 minutes before stripping, and we got a clean edge on the second slab with zero touch ups. Cost me about $340 in patching material and a half day of labor to fix the first one, which stings less than a callback. Anyone got a rule of thumb for wait time on stripping when it's 100 plus out here?
