I finally got a clean finish on a 40-yard basement slab in one shot last week.

We were in a tight spot in Akron, Ohio, and the pump truck was late, so the mix was starting to set up faster than usual. I switched to a magnesium bull float earlier than I normally would and kept the crew moving in a tight circle, no breaks. What's your go-to move when the concrete starts to turn on you faster than expected?

Switching to a magnesium float early is a solid call when the mix gets hot. I've had that panic on a driveway pour in July. My first move is always to get everyone off the screed and onto finishing tools immediately, no matter the planned steps. Have you found that working in a tight circle like that causes any issues with the joint lines later, or does the speed just make it all blend together?

Man, that sounds stressful. A hot mix in a tight basement is no joke. Solid work getting it done in one shot.
