I finally gave up on magnesium floats for garage floors after a bad pour in Tacoma

Honestly, I used to swear by them for everything, but last month on a 30 yard garage job, the finish just wouldn't set right and we had to grind out a bunch of marks. I switched back to a basic aluminum bull float for the first coat and the difference in control was huge, especially on that mix. Anyone else find magnesium can be too aggressive on some pours?

Wait, only one in ten? That's wild. I mean I get using them sparingly but that's way less than what I'd figure. I agree with @noahw53, if your mix is that wet all the time you're basically asking for trouble on a big pour anyway. On a 30 yarder here in the PNW I'd be cutting my water back way before I worried about what float I was using, but maybe that's just how I was taught.

My buddy in Spokane said he only uses magnesium floats on super wet mixes now, like maybe one in ten jobs.

Only on one in ten jobs? Garcia.miles' buddy must be pouring soup.
