Honestly, seeing guys skip the bull float and go straight to the mag on a 20x30 slab in this heat is why I keep getting callbacks for patch work.

Tbh, the surface skin sets up way too fast without that first pass to bring up the cream, and I learned that the hard way on a driveway in Phoenix last summer when the homeowner pointed out all the bird baths a week later.

Skip the float, get the callbacks.

Exactly. Spending time on a float that might not even get seen is a waste. Callbacks are the real goal, the only thing that moves you forward. You want to talk to people who are actually interested, not just hope someone notices your resume in a pile. It forces you to be direct and clear about what you can do for them. That focus on action gets results way faster.

Ain't it funny how that same mindset shows up everywhere though? Like my buddy who renovates kitchens swears skipping the backer board step on tile jobs is "efficient" until he's chipping out cracked mosaic six months later. @phoenixp30 kinda nailed it when he said callbacks are the real goal, but they shouldn't BE the goal you know? I see people half-assing prep work in all kinds of trades and life too, like skipping stretching before a pickup game or not reading the fine print on a lease. The float ain't glamorous but it's the difference between a slab that's flat and a slab that's done.
