Heard a guy at the supply house say he never uses a magnesium float on a garage floor... said it's always wood or aluminum. Got me second-guessing my whole process.

That guy's garage floor must look like a washboard.

My last garage floor looked like I finished it with a garden rake. I was so proud of the smooth finish, then the sun hit it the next morning and showed every single swirl. Maybe I just don't have the touch for it, or maybe my arm gets tired and I start doing weird things. I'm sticking with my wood float now to save myself the shame.

That wood float comment actually got me rethinking everything. I used to think steel trowels were the only way to get a professional finish, but your description of the sun highlighting every single swirl hit home. Now I'm wondering if my last slab would have been better off with a wood float all along.
