Man that's rough. Dry heat out there is no joke for concrete work.

Figured that out the hard way myself a few years back. I used to think dry heat was way easier to deal with than humidity on the job, but then I watched a slab crack like crazy in Arizona because the top set too fast while the bottom was still wet. Never underestimate how fast those dry winds suck the moisture right out of the mix, especially on a big pour.

Yeah and @susanm22 nailed it about the dry winds. But here's the thing nobody talks about - the time of day you pour matters just as much as wet curing. Did you do your pour in the afternoon? That's when the sun is baking the top layer before the bottom even has a chance to settle.
