Drove past a new subdivision build yesterday and nearly lost my mind
Saw a crew pouring a driveway in that new development off Highway 99. They were finishing it with a broom and you could see the drag lines were all inconsistent, like they were rushing through it. I counted at least 4 spots where the aggregate was showing through because they didn't work the surface enough before the final pass. Boss must have given them a 3 hour window for a job that needed at least 5. Has anyone else seen sloppy work like that and just wanted to pull over and fix it yourself?

Jumped out of my truck last summer when I saw a crew doing the same thing on a cul-de-sac near my place. The finish was so rough it looked like they used a hay rake instead of a proper broom. I walked over and asked the foreman if they planned to grind it down or just leave it like that, and he got all defensive. Turns out they had a concrete truck waiting too long and the mix was already starting to set up, so they had to rush the finish. I told him a slow steady hand beats a fast sloppy one any day, and pointed out where the lines would hold water. They didn't fix it, but the homeowner called me later and I ended up consulting on how to patch the worst spots. Have you ever called the builder out on something like that?

That part about the mix already setting up is wild. I've seen crews panic over a fast-setting load, but letting it get that far gone before even brooming it is next level. I've walked past a few bad jobs myself but never had the homeowner call me back about it, so props to you for that follow-up.
