Dropped $400 on a laser level that barely works on sunny days
I bought a Bosch GLL 3-80CG thinking it'd save me time laying out footings for a patio in Phoenix. That thing is completely useless outside when the sun's out, the green beam just vanishes. Anyone tried a different brand that actually holds up in direct sunlight?

Try using a chalk line on those bright days.

8 out of 10 times I've tried a chalk line on a bright day it just disappears the second the sun hits it. I get what you're going for @rowanp15, but unless you're using that bright blue or neon chalk it's pretty much useless. Even then, the line fades so fast you barely have time to snap a second mark. I'd rather just use a pencil and straightedge on a cloudy day or wait until the light shifts.
