A guy at the supply yard in Tacoma swore by a 5 inch slump for everything

He was telling a new crew that a wetter mix is always faster to work and gives a better finish. I've seen too many jobs in the Seattle rain where that extra water led to major cracking after a year. My take is you adjust for the weather and the pour, not just pick one number. Anyone else run into this 'one slump fits all' idea on a site?

I mean, is it really that big of a deal? Some guys just have their way of doing things and it works for them.

Used to think that way too until I saw a sidewalk we poured turn into a jigsaw puzzle. Now I check the sky and the spec sheet every time.

Oh man, a jigsaw puzzle sidewalk? Guess some guys' way of doing things is just making more work for the rest of us.
