Vent: the shop in Austin that charges $45 just to look at a laptop
Stopped by a repair shop near 6th Street while visiting a buddy and watched them quote a walk-in $45 just to open the thing up, before any parts. I get that bench time isn't free, but has anyone else noticed diagnostic fees creeping up like this, or is it just a local thing?

Charging 45 bucks just to peek inside is wild. That's not a diagnostic fee, that's a cover charge for the laptop club. Pretty soon they'll hit you with a two drink minimum before they even touch the keyboard.
