Unpopular opinion: that $19 fan in my bench rig saved a customer's whole build
I was replacing a dead board on a guy's PC last week when I noticed his case fan had stopped spinning months ago, probably from all the cat hair packed in the blades. He had no idea, and his CPU was idling at 71C because the heat had nowhere to go, which is likely what cooked the old board in the first place. I dropped a $19 replacement fan in, temps fell to 44C, and he said nobody had ever mentioned airflow to him in 6 years of owning that machine. How many of you make airflow checks part of every tune-up, or do you just fix the part they brought it in for?
