Sounds like you've single-handedly kept the laptop hinge industry in business. What are people doing, slamming them shut like car doors?

Yeah, I stopped opening mine from the corner. Just push from the middle now. Seems to put less stress on the hinge. Haven't had one break since.

My buddy used to always grab his laptop by the corner and yank it open. He went through three hinges in two years and finally just switched to pushing from the middle like you said. He told me he felt dumb it took him that long to figure out. He even tried the whole "open it slowly" thing before but that didn't help either. The middle push method is the only thing that's worked for him since.
