Overheard a sysadmin say certification was a waste of time... is it though?

I was at a Micro Center last Saturday and heard two techs arguing about whether CompTIA A+ matters anymore. One guy said it's just a piece of paper that gets you past HR, the other said it taught him how to actually troubleshoot hardware. What's your take on certs vs real experience in this field?

A+ helped me land my first IT job. Real experience kept me there.

Totally agree, it's wild how often people overlook the hands-on stuff. You see it everywhere - everyone wants the cert but nobody wants to actually get their hands dirty and learn the real skills behind it.
